2022 JUNIOR STATE CUP CANCELLED

It is with great disappointment that Queensland Touch Football and Fraser Coast Regional Council announce the decision to cancel the 2022 Junior State Cup, due to take place from Thursday 7 – Saturday 9 July 2022 at the new Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct, Hervey Bay.

Unpreceded rainfall across Fraser Coast in the past few days has substantially impacted the playing fields and venue. After several assessments of the venue by Fraser Coast Regional Council (FCRC) and Queensland Touch Football (QTF), player and spectator safety both on the field and surrounds, could not be guaranteed and therefore the decision to cancel has been made.

QTF and FCRC have made every endeavor to ensure the Junior State Cup event could proceed, with many contingencies discussed and plans revised on several occasions. 233 teams were expected to participate in the event across 22 fields. It has been determined that 10-12 fields are presently unplayable with the expectation that more will be deemed unsafe should games be played. Unfortunately, despite the forecast looking more favourable in the days ahead, this is an insufficient number of fields for matches to be played, even with the significant rescheduling of draws, game times and shortened event timelines.

With these factors taken into account QTF and FCRC has, therefore, made the decision that it is no longer possible to conduct the event safely.

We appreciate that many affiliates, participants, and referees have been left out of pocket, as have QTF with substantial costs already spent and unrecoverable. QTF is currently working through options with respect to the event and will provide further information to affiliates and participants once decisions are finalised in the next week.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to work through this process.
